Or, you could not rely on their advice, after all, most are a PhD of internet aquariological studies. Do your own research.
I've honestly been seriously considering gearing my college education toward an eventual business in constructing custom aquariums (large tanks, broad, shallow tanks, table/bar tanks, in-wall tanks, etc) and having a online/RL side-shoppe of fish and fish supplies, both common and exotic.
I'd also have a service that'd go out to the offices, businesses, etc that my tanks were installed into to clean, maintain, and care for said tanks and fish for a monthly fee.
I've already decided my employees will be required to read up on basic aquatic care and I'll have certain information bookmarked into the computers at the shop so they can look up things they don't know. I want 100% customer AND fish satisfaction

I like you're thinking!! There is only one good pet store where i live, Tropical world pets on Watson rd in St.Louis, they only have one moron working theres, hes knowledgeable but arrogant. thinks he knows everything but pretty much knows the basics.
Why do people expect some minimum wage clerk to know it all? Why is the first person you can flag down, who probably works part-time, expected to take responsibility for the way the whole store is run? It's like cussing out some poor receptionist because you have a problem with a company. It might make you feel better, but only if you don't mind ruining someone's day without actually solving the problem.

although I agree that it is unfair to treat a betta or any fish badly I have been lucky. I did find a LFS with employees that do actually care about their fish and their customers and gave me the proper advise in fishkeeping. Which I appreciated alot since I am still learning about this wonderful hobby. It is sad when you go into a LFS where they don't care. I go to Petland Discounts they are located off of Amboy Rd Staten Island, NY.
