Life after the crash

Jayghmi, thanks for the response. I had only one crash from a heat wave and water temperature issue... 90 degrees. Previously I had the tank flourishing on well water for 3 years but did use distilled water from time to time. Yes the filter is only a sediment filter and I would like to look into a RO set up. It may be hard to convince my hubby. I read that corals take the vitamins and minerals out of the water as they absorb them for growth and that is why you need to replace them weekly. I guess I read that in the Kent Marine catalogue, who wants to sell their product, and the sales people who want to get the product off of their shelves.
Also thanks for the web site, I will investigate. Besides having my water tested at the store, I was using the test strips that you dip into the water. They sell different ones for freshwater, marine, and even for testing swimming pools. Are they accurate enough?

Soupysteve, I think u are a very empathetic master, not an apathetic one, as you have entered into the essence of my problem, and have given very useful advice. I left my computer desk and immediately added more fresh water to lower salinity and SG to 1.022. I'd be gald to use less additives, more money stays in my pocket. I'll be checking out Drs. Foster/Smith and Reefcentral for local reefers for a possible Naso Tang adoption. Thanks again!!!
