Lifespan of some common fish

at my LFS they have a huge gourami (25" at least) and they have had it since 1983 and when they got it, it was already 5" long. That puts it at least 23 yrs old. He looks like he has several yrs left in him......

emerald corys were't there. I figured they'd be around 5 years like the others (even though they aren't actual corys)?
Just wondering...

wow!! i am printing off the list at the top of the page, i'm in my second year of keeping fish and have NO idea how long fish live. i have fish on that list that last for 5+ years. NO, i don't wish them a short life, but i was prepared to restock every so often thinking that fish don't live that long! hey, i am so happy knowing that the little clown loach i put into the tank a year ago and is now not so little, could live for 15 years!! big up to people like Swimfins who teach people like me, new owners of fish, what to look forward to. RESPECT!!!! KEV.

Hah, figure 8 puffers can grow up to 18+ years old!

Yup, Neons and Cardinals both average out at six years in my tanks, but I know that the Neons should go longer. Corys should make the teens. Figure 8 puffers should average mid-teens. Clown loaches are forever, 20s routinely, 30s for many, oldest known in tanks was upper 40s. I have multiple teenaged Synodontis cats now, show no signs of aging, but one did die last year, without symptoms, so they may be getting up there.
