Actually, color values *are* important. To your plants at least. (And live rock if you have a SW tank.)
While a 10000K light will work for keeping plants alive, 6700K is much better suited to the task as they typically have the wavelengths plants need.
If you like the look of your fish with the actinic (10000K) bulbs, but are having issues with plant growth, then you can get compact fluorescent bulbs that are 50/50. Or if you have a dual tube setup, you can mix your own light values.
