Light bulb for 10 gallon hood?

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5650617

are these what
you are talking about ?

I couldnt find any smaller watt bulbs at home depot.. I bought a wierd bulb but they dont seem to be that effective since they are soft white bulbs

Any other places they sell them? There are no walmarts around here

i had the same problem when i had my 10g tank.. the incandescent bulbs were 2 yellow and dull and produced massive amounts of heat (plus the energy it uses).. so i went to look for fluorescent bulbs.. in the petstore they had some bulbs but were $9-12 a pop.. then i went to petco and they had some 50/50 slim fluorescent bulb and that was somewhere near $15..

so i stopped by home depot and found Mini-fluorescent bulbs.. they have 3 types one was in green package one in red and one in blue.. they all ranged in the level of brightness..
green package = soft-white
red package = bright white
blue package = day light

I got the blue package.. it was 4 for $5.50 or so (one for $3)

they brightened up my tank for sure.. and allowed java moss to grow..

I bought the same kind! except they are 15 w because the hood can only have a watt capacity up to 25 watts, is there any way to light the tank besides the hood? I was thinking about getting a strong cable cord, on one end, dangle lights above the tank, like when construction is done or lights are needed for a cave and lights are hung like christmas trees

oo on my 10g hood it was 50W

Hey you can always upgrade or get a used for a few bucks

The Walmart here sells 10W straight bulbs in the pet department. If you have a 15 or 20W limit on your hood, they would be OK. The straight ones are no wider than the aquarium light bulbs you are using but they run brighter and cooler. I ended up going on line and found some 20W bulbs but my hood was rated to take 25W incandescents. They were like these, may have actually been these. http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsU...996/cl0/coralifeminicompactcolormaxlamp20watt

yeah those GE ones are the ones I have, I use soft white though, as I've read some articles that say it is fine for plants.

Check home depot and stuff for shop lights if you're really interested in them. Twin 24" lights can be had for like ~$10. They can even rest right on top of the tank, or if want you can get some plexiglass cut or a versa top.
