light question?

I have taken over my little girls eclipse 6 and was thinking about adding some plants. I was going to get a new bulb, would a 8 watt Hagen power glow be enough for anything other than what would be considered a low light plant? Is there a better 12" light that would be better?

Also, About a month ago I threw a piece of Philodendron in the tank just to see what would happen. It is doing fairly well but I was wondering if it would have a negative effect in the long run?

i would go more try 13w or higher. the smaller the tank the more light it needs. there is a minimal light threshold as rex calls it.

I would have the leaves of the philodendron out of the water in back & just the roots in. Eventually the leaves will rot under water but the roots are good nitrate removers. Many people grow them that way.
