I am working on upgrading the lighting for my tank and I am just overwhelmed by the lighting choices. :nilly::o

Right now I have Hagen an aqua-glo and a floraglo light on it, which were fine when over a 10g, but not bright enough or long enough for my 20.

I can't find 30 inch fixtures locally, so I guess I will have to stick with either the 18 or 24 inch bulbs. I do have plenty of DIY co2 and ferts in this tank.

I would like to keep the aquaglo or find something similar because it really brings out the colors, but I need something with brighter more powerful light as well.

On my 75 which is 48 inches long I also want to upgrade my lighting,
right now I am using a combo of 6500K and full spectrum cfls and I don't like the light, it is too greenish. It is planted with medium light plants and no CO2 at this time.

I have a 48 inch shoplight that holds 2 t8, but it won't fit in my hood so I was thinking of switching to a 36 inch shoplight with a couple of t5. But I also don't know what kind of bulbs to choose for it.

I have been looking all over for the GE aquarays or the sylvania Gro-lux with no luck so I am stuck with Zoomed or hagen or coralife bulbs as well as common hardware store bulbs.

why not go 36" for the 20? it would give you complete coverage and nice light spread. most fixtures can have their "feet" adjusted inward also to accommodate a shorter tank.

daylight (6500k) works just fine for plants. why the search for aquarays and grolux?

to offset your "too green" i'd switch out either the "daylight" or 6500k bulb to a 10,000k bulb. should give you that "crisp" white light it seems you're looking for.

for t8/cfl bulbs i won't even consider a specialty bulb. it's not worth it to pay twice the price for the same bulbs sold at home depot under another part number...

I have the 6500K screw in bulbs over my 75 and it just seems washed out to me, the greens look great, but it doesn't bring out any of the other colors IMO.

Does anyone have any experience with the sunblaze strips from Ken's fish. What is the difference between those and strip lights from the hardware store?
