Lighting a 10 gal

Karnaaj.. I followed the link and I still dont see how 28 watts over a ten gallon is low light. The Lilaeopsis I have loves it in there... I understand the reflector buisness but the thing is that the photosynthetically available radiation, or light, (PAR) from a given source drops off with given increases in distance.. even in inches. At least I was pretty sure it did.. the light meter I was using certainly indicated more available light a few inches from a bulb than it did 30" from it. And that was inside a commerical growth chamber with reflectors and lots of white paint. Hmm.

I realize that the purpose of a reflector is to put the light into the tank specifically and not scatter it all about and lose its intensity.. but I just dont see how you can say that light quality doesnt drop off with distance. I was under the impression that the WPG rule was really loosely based on distances.. tanks of larger volume tend to be taller. ???

I'm confused! ;)

The argument as far as tank depth is concerned is that the vast majority of tanks out there just aren't deep enough to worry about light loss.

As far as how much light you need there was a link within the link that I provided that should have been the one I posted in the first place. Here is what should have come up Minimum Lighting
