lighting a 10 gallon?!

with a light fixture placed strategically over the top of the water so that it shines down into the tank..

yea. are you going to be using DIY co2? pressurized co2? Densely planted? Lightly planted? Plants that need high lighting? Plants that require lower lighting?
i use a 28w coralife strip on my 10g planted with a. nana,corkscrew&jungle vals, java fern, c. wendtii,java moss, moss ball,wisteria, and some other plant i dont know the name of (sm. piece came with a fish i bought so i tossed it in there and it grew).
No Co2, just flourish and excel, and my plants grow like crazy.

you can try the screw in power compact light bulbs they sell at places like walmart and home depot.
I haven't seen these with a K rating any higher than 5100 but 6500 seems to be the recommendation for a planted tank.
Read the linked thread, there are a lot of options mentioned. If you don't find something to your liking, specify what you are looking for. I'm currently lighting 4 seperate 10g tanks 4 different ways, all of them are working for the plants I'm growing.

You could easily fit two eighteen inch flourescent bulbs over the top of a ten gallon. Those are 15 watts each.
That is one of the options listed in the thread I linked to above, and is one that I currently use with my most heavily planted 10g.
