Im looking to up grade my current light fixture in my 75g 48" long tank can someone please tell me the approximate wattage I need to grow Amazon Swords and other South American type plants.

I dont wanna do co2 for now. Id like to hear what configurations other people are using for a 75g.

I have a 55g hex with two 10g lights that are made for the hood. Im pusing a AMAZING .6wpg!!!!!!!!!! I have two 15w 18" fixtures. I have my pics below in my thread. I just got a sword after those pics and its doing fine.

I would check out the company called AHSupply. A quick websearch will find them. They sell retrofitting kits (that are easy to use) and whole new lighting kits as well. Perhaps you can save some money by upgrading what you already have. I don't have a 75 gallon tank. Mine is 29g with 96 watts of light, no CO2 and weekly ferts. I get decent, though not supwer fast growth. That is fine by me.

AH-Supply is good - you also might consider T5 or T8 as both are cheaply available in 48" tubes. Fitted w/ Tek individual reflectors, these, for example would grow lots of swords if you got 3-4 going. If you want CO2 later, you could bump it up to 6.

Over my 75 I run a pair of AH Supply 55w power compacts on the rear and a 36 inch triton fluor on the front. No co2 added.
