I'm sorry to post this in general fresh water but i've tried in the products/DIY with no response. . . I'm getting paid soon sooo. . .i of coarse want to buy more fish stuff

I have a 20 gal long with only 20 watts over it, the hood is from petsmart called "deluxe florecent aquarium hood" it not so deluxe but i bought it when living in a small city in Montana and it was the only option other than a plain glass hood. and the bulb is a "life-glo"

so I would like to get to 40watts or slightly above.

I can't afford the power bill of a truely nice lighting system but i would like to be able to have 2 24" bulbs going at a time.

I've looked all over the internet at retrofit kits etc. i don't know what i should get.

I don't know if i can keep the hood i have or what.

very confused and needing advise -k

I was confused about which kit I needed to buy too so I e-mailed ahsupply.com directly with my question. I gave them the dimensions of my hood and the width at the widest part. I wanted the 2x55W kit but thank goodness I asked because it wouldn't fit. So they recommended the 1x96W would fit in my hood. They got back to me within a day. They will be the best ones to ask if you give them your dimensions.

Exactly. You're going to need a PC light bulb and ballast to retrofit into your existing fixture. This is the type of kit you can get from AH supply.

Another option would be to build yourself a new hood to fit more normal fluorescents or buy a double tube fixture.

why haven't i been able to find a double tube fixture in all my searches?!!!!

do you know where i can find one?

that sounds like the easiest thing for me to do

This is what most people will recommend you go for kits.
