Lighting for a odd shaped 90 Gal

ok i got it down to two choices

a PC 4x65watt that comes with bulbs for $265 +$16.95 shipping

and

a PC 4x96watt for $339 + $15 shipping but comes with no bulbs

the extra 124 watts worth it in a tank that is 24 inchs deep ? would it be worth the extra $124 to get the IceCap 660 ballast on this one ?

also, do different PC fixtures use different shape bulbs or different connectors? how do i know what ones to buy with this light if i were to buy it ? or is is one brand fits all ?

For a given wattage, the overall shape of the bulbs is the same. BUT, there are two kinds of bases, square pin, which have the 4 pins in a square, and straight pin, with the pins in a row. Just match wattage and base type, and you're home free.

In my opinion, you will soon forget about the extra money you spent to get the 4X96 setup, but you will like it better in the long term.

I don't know if the IceCap ballast is worth that much more.

my feelings too. i think the extra is prolly worth it. prolly the one i will go with . i don't know jack about ballasts so i guess ill prolyl pass on spending the extra $124 because i have no idea what good it will do me.

On a side note i found these jebo lights on ebay for $79 + 20 in shipping . They are PC 4X55 with bulbs included ..... this has to be of thouse times where ya get what ya pay for. sounds too good to be true

one better than the other ? like are there more bulbs made for the square pin than strait ?
 
well it seems people think that the color of the PC's are not as good as VHO's but the PC's are more powerfull and use less power.

I have no idea. I've been very happy with PCs, but some are completely sold on VHO. Mixing them may give some benefit, but it seems awfully complicated.
