my 50g came with 2 15w flourescents. obviously that wasn't enough light, so i grabbed an 80w shop light at home depot and got it on there. looking at my discarded 30watts of light, i figured what the heck, cut the plastic down to the height of my tank, and siliconed (i'll have to razor it off to change the lights, but that's no big deal) them to the side of the tank (at the back corner). they actually look pretty good turned on, as my tank is always viewed from the front not the side. i patted myself on the back and felt pretty smart, until the plant nearest one of the lights (it is a high light plant, i have several others that are doing fine) started to turn from green to brown. is it getting too much light? it's got that 15w shining directly on it, plus the light from above.
