Lighting Issue

Based on the responses I've read regarding tin foil, I'd avoid it. Foil is a light "diffuser", not a reflector. Mylar does reflect, but the AH reflectors are awesome.

It looks a bit murky to me. Do you have an algae problem?

I bough some super reflective tape at home depot for my hagen hood. It works wonders and is humidity proof. It is used outdoors as a safety tape for visibility at night.

yeah the water does have a yellow tinge to it,its the bog wood i have in the tank.
i do 25% water change every 2weeks,that clears the water for a few days, then it comes back

TMK a white surface is the best reflector. I wouldn't cover it with foil :)

blinkster, i respect your view but i do disagree with you on this one. Smooth aluminum foil has a emissitivity of around 0.1. In a round about way this is very good and basically says that if 100 light particles hit it it will reflect 90% more than a perfect black body (that absorbs everything) All high quality hoods are made out of polished metal because they have the lowest emisitivity. If you keep your tin foil smooth you can get great results. On my system i would say that the foil increased light levels by 5-10%. it is all in how you shape the foil for your reflector. but a white background will do also, but i believe that e=0.2 for perfect white bodies.
