I currently have a 28G tank with 2x55W PC lights over it. I'm working out plans for a new hood and stand to replace my ugly metal stand. I already have ballasts to do up to 4x55W PC lights in the hood and I think they'd fit OK over the tank.

I'm currently keeping: tongue coral, ST plate coral, candy cane, green star polyps, a selection of zoos, some mushrooms and a finger leather. I'm planning on possible keeping other LPS, zoos and softies.

My question is...do you think I would benefit from the 4x55W vs. the 2x55W? Just wondering if you think it would be worth the effort?

In my experience, more light gives faster growth. The downside is more energy use, more heat, and more lamps to change. For the species you mention, there isn't a need for a lot more light.

Since you asked for opinions, I'd go for a 175 watt halide instead of 4X55 watt PC if I were to upgrade. Prettier light, better penetration.
