Lighting question

thank you for your help Grins i appreciate it, the corals seem to be doing fine with this setup but ill keep my eye out for any upgrades :)

just for clearification: you said you have 28 watt t5s. those are normal output t5s which are NOT significantly better than PC. the kind which is a quality light are a decent fixture of the t5 high outputs. the 36" version (which i am assuming you have seeing hwo you are lookign to add 96 watt PCs) are 39 watts. the normal outputs are 28 and really arent much more suitable for handling corals than normal output florecents. if i were you, i would look for an upgrade.

sorry but im having some troubles understanding what your saying, my light fixture is the 30" version and has two bulbs, both 18 watts for a 36 watt total, i wanted to go with the Pc's because i haven't been able to find a decent wattage t5 fixture that wouldn't overhang my tank too much (its only around 32" long) and not break me and with the Pc's i could get more wattage for my tank size.
i haven't really seen any high output t5's here locally or on ebay so i was hoping the Pc's in combination with my current T5 fixture would be enough for my current corals

ohhh, okay. i see what you are saying. but i just posted because i was under the impression that grins thought you had t5 HO judging by his advice on how good they are and the individual reflectors. your light is actualy just a normal output t5 fixture and doesnt have much more light than any other type of normal output florecent. i cant think of any 30" t5 HO fixtures, but if you are already willing to get a 36" version and just hang it, tek makes a really good one;. with enough bulbs, you could keep just about anything. also, there are 30" PC units if you dont want something to overhang the tank too much... they just have 2X65 watt bulbs. also, if you are already getting a fixture that is too big for your tank, dont get the jebo/odyssea, because the fixture is 36"s, but the legs make it an evtra 2-3"s longer on each side. so you wouldnt be able to use the legs at all. i had to slide them way in (further then they are suposed to go) just to fit on my 36" tank.
adding another PC fixture shoudl be fien with your corals mentioned, but more light would do wonders, i think you would find

ok well i buckled down and bought another coralife fixure, its PCs and has two 65W bulbs ones a 10k and ones a 420 nm 03 actinic (if that makes any sense?) i will be running both on the fixtures eventually but turned off the t5 for now. my corals are going nuts! they love it ive never seen my tounge and frogspawn so happy lol! even the zoas look better i just wanted to thank you guys (and girl) for all your help :D
