Ok here is my situation. I am looking for more light. I want to do alot more with my reef now as I have had my 30 gal. tank going for 6 months. I was just wanting some opinions on what would be a better choice.

1.JBJ K-2 Viper Deluxe 250W HQI Clamp on Lamp Lighting Fixture w/2 LEDs & Fan (http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~idProduct~JB9133.html)

2. 30” MH ADV+ CF 380W (http://cgi.ebay.com/30-Metal-Halide...photoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262)

These links I have posted have pictures and info on the lights.

All opinions are greatly appreciated!!
thanks!

Theoretically, the second choice should be brighter. Whether it actually is or not is up for debate. In any case, I do think the second choice will afford you more options, since it at least has some actinics.

For the nice "Sleekness" factor that Viper with a Phoenix 14k bulb in it would probably look nicer astheticly, but may not be the best choice for the corals out of the 2.

Only problem I have found when using halides on a small tank is keeping the temp down. Without a chiller you will need to run more fans which in turn will make your evaporation increase. I for one hated having to fill my tanks from evap everyday so I chose to go woth t-5's. In turn I have much lower heat issues and much less evap from using fans.

That was my concern...Heat. I have t-5's with a fan in the sump. I have looked into MH and see no way without a chiller. IHO
