I have a 120 gallon (Freshwater) 48 X 24 X 24 tank from AGA with an AGA dual bulb light. The light came with (2) G.E. "Aqua Ray" Salt/Fresh 40 watt bulbs. I have noticed that the tank when lit looks hazy white, especially when looking from the side of the tank. Just wondering if anyone knew about theses bulbs and might have suggestion for a more natural looking bulb. Tring for a natural river look :hi:

Ohhh Yeah would I benefit from an actinic bulb?

Have you verified that the haze isn't in the water?

Actinics provide more blue. In a FW setup, unplanted, lighting is a matter of preference. The fish won't really benefit one way or another, as long as there is a regular lighting cycle.

The haziness could be a bacterial bloom or an indication that your current filtration is not quite enough for your aquarium. It could also be that your filter is producing a lot of tiny bubbles that form this haziness.

Particles or a bacterial bloom will still be visible regardless of the type of light.

Yes haze is not in the water..

When I tried the same light on my 65 gallon, I got the same result...

Hmmm...Check the strip, make sure it's clear and clean of particulates. Any way to get a picture? I've never had a problem with a light producing a hazy appearnace--it can enhance a haze present in either the water or the glass, or just not be very bright.

Pics of Brody's tank.

Hmmm. I can see what you mean by haze, but I don't think it's the tank light that's causing the haze...Is it at bad at night, when there is less background glare hitting the tank?

No its the same at night and during the day.

But I think you were right about the light cuz it looks hazy when the light is off now.

Could I be going through another bacteria bloom from adding fish after my fishless cycling???

Sort of. It's likely a bacteria bloom, but unrelated to the bacteria that consume nitrogen wastes. Rather, there are tons of different bacteria that live in our tanks, and this is probably one that consuming something else. Give it a few days--these blooms aren't harmful to the fish, and most often wear out their food source in a few days. It might get worse before it gets better, but it should pass.
