I am getting ready to finally place some low light plants in the tank. Before I do that I know I will need some more lighting to the one that I have currently. The tank I have is a 10g hexagonal size tank. It came with a florescent light. In looking at the bulb it is only 8w and I know I will need more. I have tried looking around the forums but am not sure what to get especially since the hood of the tank is a different shape than the standard tank. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to get more light or point me to some sites? I would certainly appreciate it. :thud:

how tall is the tank?

The problem with hex tanks and plants is that they are usually tall and have a small area for lights on top. Even the bigger of the 2 lights will give you under 2w/g which is usually ok but if your tank is tall the w/g rule is kinda ruled out.
I would go with a basic 10 if you want plants. But you could grow a few plants in your hex with the upgraded lighting, but no promises if you will have any luck.

If your fixed on using that tank, hang a metal halide bulb over it, you won't have a problem with light any more. Thats a little extreme though.
good luck
