if your old fixture came with a T8, i would use a T8 to replace it, it wont work unless your ballast is made to work with both

im pretty sure its an all-glass hood, guess iv gotta return the bulb... thing works great when i touch it to the toy plasma globe, but put it in the fixture and theres no hope :screwy:

Sounds like the bulb is probably good then.

Does your fixture have a removable/replaceable starter (silver can)? That could need replacing.

Generally I've found T12's to work in most any fixture...95 % of the time.

If that's not it, and you can easily return the T12...get a daylight (which is ~6500K) T8 at a local home improvement or lighting shop. You could even take the fixture in with you to make sure the lamp works in it.

If it's an AGA hood then it should be working. The starter is cheaper to replace, so might as well try that first.
