Hello folks,

I am converting my 29Gallon to a planted tank and I am looking around for lighting to get me to the magic number of 2 WPG. My budget is approx. $100 and my question is what are your suggestions.

Thanks!

well you can go with t8 bulbs. i would get power compact lighting. ahsupply sells great kits.

depending on how much you want to get into plants. if you will want to add co2 and ferts you should go with more lights.

there is no magic number. when working with lights the wpg only works for a very select few tanks.

this might explain it better.

I like PC lighting...and I have the 1x65w Coralife fixture over my 29g. It is just over 2wpg and allows me to grow a wide range of plants.

linky

(and its cheaper than $100, so you save some money ;))

AH Supply is a good place as well, if you want to make your own enclosure and retrofit their PC kits in. A 1x55w would work. I've heard alot of good things about their kits.

Another vote for AH Supply. I have 7 of their kits and am very happy with the lighting from them. They have unbelievable customer service, too!

If you have a canopy, go for an AHSupply kit.

If not, get either a Coralife Aqualight fixture, or a Current USA Satellite or Current USA Orbit fixture. All will work fine.
