Hey everyone, I need some advice and direction on a good Timer I can use for my lighting. Ive never needed any timers for my tanks I just do it myself when I get up and before I go to bed. But I recenlty sold my 55g to my fiances firm and am getting paid $60 a month to clean and maintain. I sold it to them with all my equipment, filters, lights etc... Since no one is in the office during the night, I am now needing a timer.

I went to my LFS but all they had were strips with 4 plugs. I only need 2! And I have looked at drfostersandsmith and they only have 1 or the strips.

Does anyone know where I can get just a 2 socket timer?

And while Im thinking of it. I also need an fairly priced but reliable 2 day automatic feeder. LFS had a Penn Plaxx for 15.99. And a real nice digital one (I forget the name) for 45.99. Any suggestions?

Go to a hardware store like homedepot, lowes or ace. They usually stock them at a significantly reduced price from the fish stores. I picked up one for $6 (1 plug) that I use on my little tank at work.

Thanks V, Thats what I figured. I wasn't sure if there may be a good online site someone here uses.

-automic feeders?

The best ones I have are the ones from the dollar store. $5 for two, I use 4. I do have another digital one made by Timex...but I don't like it, even though it has more options.

Why would you want a 2-day auto feeder? And unless you want to invest in an expensive one, most of what I see of the cheaper ones is that they mess up... a lot, fall in the tank...a lot. Your fish can go a lot longer than 2 days without feeding if that is why you are going to get one.

Thanks for everyones replies. pinkertd, the reason I only want a 2 day feeder is because I will only be using it on the weekend when Im not in the area to stop by and feed the fish. I would rather have a (2 day) feeder for saturday and sunday, instead of making a 10 mile trip on the weekends to the office just to feed the fish. I understand that the fish will probably be ok going 2 days out of the week without eating. But the way I look at it is, I wouldnt starve my dog for 2 days and I definitely wouldnt starve myself for 2 days, so why do it to my fish?

Thanks all

you could get the 1 plug timer, then put one of these in it:
