Yo,

I would like to know the general rule for how long the lights should be running. 8hrs? I have a 30gal. JBJ Nano Cube w/ live rock, hermit crabs, 3 snails, and a mated pair of True Percula Clowns. I plan to start adding coral this weekend or next week.

Tanks in advance. hahahah. (get it? lol)

about 8 hours a day is more than enough....However, how they run will all depend on what the type of lighting you have...The lighting you have will also dictate what corals you can keep aswell....

Usually, where your fish and corals come from, the shortest days don't last less than 11 hours, with the longest days lasting more than 13 hours.
Staged lighting is the best, however, MH's should be on about 9 - 11 hours. Even very early in the morning and late at evening you get quite strong light penetration on your average reef, but it usually get's dark quick, and light quick. You usually set out before sunrise, and you will be amazed how quickly it become very bright, I'm taking about sunrise at a little after 5am to sunset past 6:30pm
