lighting

I've listened to that nonsense for years now.
Local hobbyists here with halides, can't produce any better looking or growing corals and anemones than my NO lit tanks can. In fact, I do pretty good at selling corals to hobbyists in the area now for a lot of years, including people who find it hard to believe I have these under NO and they use halides.
Check the website for pics.

The message I would like to get across is that I'm not doing anything special or lucking in with a tank. I have ten systems on the go and that repeatability speaks for itself IMO.
There are many ways to succeed in this hobby, and my way is just one of many that do work. It's frustrating though to see posts claiming something can't be done, when many are doing it.
I've learned over the years, that just because I can't do something, doesn't mean others can't or aren't doing it.

very true and i agree its nice to see other methods out there i constanly get bashed for things i clame. i was just stating the most common sure fire knowledge. its sometimes easier to use common methods rather than the easier less spoken of ones...its strange that way but this thread needs to get back on topic so lets leave this at this.:)

Yes i have currently got a bubble tip anenome in my 25 gallon. He has got 245 watts. Ive got a 75 gallon saltwater cycling at the momment and ive got about 300 watts of lighting in there. So the anenome can stand not much lighting but it is good to have heaps of watts thanks kano5003.

Ummm isnt 12 killos of LR not very much for a 75 gallon?( You have 12 killos right?) I have a 29 gallon and it has 30 pounds which is 13.6kg. You need about 1-1.5 pound per gallon of LR. So that is.... about 34 kg, a bit more would be nice. :)

Well, bringing this back on topic in a second here..but....I will stand by what Germman said in post 3 and what JoJo said in post 4...

I am a firm believer that in this hobby, you should not be doing something, like lighting, just to get by. If you are going to do it, do it correctly and in my opinion, that is with halide lights..

Back to topic...

However, as you are on a budget and can not really spend much money, your best bet is to buy a second hand T5 fixture off eBay..They are always on there and this will, at least, give you a good basis to start building your Reef on..Then, maybe in the future, when you you've started to work and earn some decent capital, maybe upgrade your fixture to something better if you feel you need too...

We can all remember being 14 and wanting something that costs a lot of money, and cannot have it..At least i remember..

Niko out !!!
