Lighting..

If you don't mind the ends of the lights hanging over the ends of the tank, you can get a twin tube 4 foot long flourescent fixture for $6.99 at Lowes, Home Depot, or most other home improvement stores. It's cheap and will do the job.

Yeah. I haven't seen the 2 footers at a cheap home improvement place, but if the OP can swing that they'd definitely be best. Then there's the cost of replacement tubes.

thanks for all the replies. my friend wants to sell me a lightolier. i think it isnt meant for aquariums but it looks like it..well the one he was trying to sell me. the thing is my tank is a 20 long and the light doesnt stretch from end to end its shorter than the tank the the 2 end sides are not covered by this lamp holder. will that side be dim?

I have no CO2 in any of my tanks right now, and even with high light I don't get much if any algae. There are literally hundreds of variables involved in the formation of, and type of algae you can get. Some algae in my opinion is actually desirable and leads to a more beautiful and natural looking tank.

would that light fit on the standard hood that comes with the tank? or is that to thin? because if i can just buy one of those then it will save me money..unless its bad? help me out please.

unless you have a t5 fixture that bulb wont be any good.

what kind of lighting does he want to sell you? how many watts?

sides shouldnt be dim you just wont be able to grow higher light plants of them....
