Im planing on starting a reef tank, 46 gallon bowed front with LR, and some corals/ anenomes. Most inhabitnats will be low to moderate light, but I was wondering if a CoralLife Power Compact w/ 10000k daylight, and an
Actinic 3 96w. I also have a jebo 110W power Compact that I could use would the 2 together be sufficient? Tnanks

If I read your post correctly and the Corallife fixture is 2X96 watts, you will be fine for most soft corals and some stony corals with the two fixtures.

dont add the attnic in to the wpg. they are watts, but i dont think you have enough of the 10000k to keep anemones. maybe if it were the other way around, 3 10000k and 1 attnic

I think what Memphis means is that if you want to squeeze the most out of the PCs you'd go with 10K lights rather than actinic - more PAR at 10K than 20+K

mmmmmm.......Crown Royal.......ahhhhhhh.......

That's true for halides, but is it also the case for PCs?

Dave, I said that cuz most people say they have "(x) watts per gallon" and want to know if they can keep a coral, but that usually doesn't mean much unless you know the type of light. I could have a regular house light bulb and use that into the wpg, so its more than just how many watts its what type of bulb it is. I guess I was just making sure it wasn't 300watts of attnics compared to 300watts of a lower kelvin bulb. My corals grew better once i changed out the 5050 bulbs for all 10000k bulbs on my PC's.

I always used my 5050bulbs in the watt/gallon thing but 135watts of 5050 bulbs is not going to be enough for somethings where 135watts of 10000k could be used. I'm kind tired, so sorry if this stuff came out wrong :)

Hmmm, that was always my assumption - that PAR peaks in the 6700K to 10000K range regardless of the source of light (MH, PC, NO or otherwise).

My candycane and frogspawn frags did perk up noticeably in the QT when I changed out my 50/50 PC bulb and went to 10,000K, but that simply could have been the fact of a new bulb.
