Are these good for a freshwater tank?

I know actinics are for SW, but I was sold this bulb by Aquarium Services after describing to them what I would be doing with my tank.

This isnt a strictly actinic bulb, its a dual bulb.... daylight and actinic.

and could someone possibly explain exactly what actinic is, and hat it does for SW tanks?

Actinic is ok for freshwater. Its comonly used on SW since it provides to proper spectra for invertebrates and corals. I have actinic blue and daylight on my AC tank and its fine.

well the bulb itself is a dual bulb.... actinic 03 AND 11,000K.
as well, I also have an 11,000K bulb.

the 50/50's in a single bulb (flourescent) dont really seem to put out a lot of the actinic blue tint, if it's a compact with two tubes you may get more tint to it. I use the single tube T8's on my brackish because the higher kelvin doesnt promote so much algae and the colors come out much much better. plug it in, if you like it keep it, if not return it and pick up whatever fits. Like Mgamer said, it's not going to get you far if your doing plants and really it is more of a SW bulb (corals and such). so it may not be worth the cost to you.
