lights for live plants

What should I buy for use with live plants. I just have the basic lights now. Two 18" flourecents for my 55gal. What specs should I look for on the box? And what has worked well for you?

What's the wattage of the lights? Also, you might PM a mod and see if they could move this to the Aquatic Plants forum because this discussion will probably focus more on plants than lighting after a bit.
