have some questions about growning plants. i know from looking at this site there is a lot of good advice out there! I have a newish 125g tank with a large assortment of plants, anubis nana, micro sword, chain sword, amazon sword, ozelot sword, moneywort, wisteria, a banana plant plus a few others. only the moneywort seems to be "ok". the leaves on the others seem to rot or "melt" after a few weeks... i use EcoComplete with some flourite, 2-4 inches and use a good liquid fert as directed. the tank gets indirect window lighting and i use a standard hood w/2x 30 watt bulbs for about 12 hrs a day. from reading this forum it seems i need more light. but what kind of bulbs? compact flourescent, regular flourescent or something else? & whats up with the "k" thing? do i need 5000"K", 9000"K" bulbs??? can anyone shed some "light" on these issues?? thanks! :help:

If I understand correctly, you have a total of 60 watts of light which is .48 watts per gallon. That isn't enough for even the low light plants you have. At the bare minimum, you need to get it up to 1 watt per gallon. For more growth, at least 2-3 watts per gallon.

At the very least 5000K, but that's really going to depend on your plants and I'll leave that to someone more experienced with that than myself.

60 W for a 125G is very low lighting and definitely why you are getting no growth/decay. I suggest you look at compact fluorescent lighting fixtures from places like www.drsfostersmith.com. They come with 6700K bulbs which is fine for plants. Aim for 2-3 watts per gallon.
