Lights Out - Algae Gone!

I am eager to turn my lights back on tommorow...

One full day of no light has my anemone looking like an anorexic cucumber...
It's so skinny and shrivled I can't hardly give it another full day of dark...

I'm gonna try to stick it out, and hope that this is normal... but It wouldn't be a full test if I cut it short...

So Tommorow (friday) the lights will come back on as scheduled...

Pray for my lil friends, and on friday... "Let there be light!"

Only a few hours left until its light again!

I can see that all the algae is off the glass etc... and the rocks look better...

But the sand looks horrible! It looks like my algae may be dinos and for that I may have to take another approach...

But I'm thinking (hoping) that its nothing and it will all clear up in no time!

My lights are back on!

The tank looks great with the exception of the sand... The glass is clean, the rocks look nice and my fish are going nuts all over the tank!

A little vacation from the sun seemed to regenerate the tank...

I was worried about my anemone, but it is already looking better...

And as for, before and After pics I'll be getting some going soon...

I just wish the sand looked better too  I'm kinda thinking that the sand algae may be dinos... not sure but it kinda looks like cyano... I dont really know...

Going to go take pics now!

Glad its turned out better then...The alage on the sand can of course be syphoned out easy enough, but obviously, if it is slime bacteria ( algae ), you need to get to the bottom of what is feeding it...

We should be able to see more from the pics when you have posted them here...

Why not just get a UV sterilizer? It will fix your algae problem with the lights on. (no pun intended)

From this post on you're going to hear people tell you its a bad idea, that it kills all sorts of beneficial things in the water, but a protein skimmer does the same thing, and how many of us are using them?

According to the below article, that is not true.

Just do a water change and siphon it out (try not to disturb more than the top 1/4 inh of sand). It's probably the dead algae that fell off the rocks.

Its obvious to me that the algae is clearly a bacteria rather than a true algae... Even tho the lights off period cut it down, it came back with a vengance one the lights were turned back on...

However, the dusty looking algae, and colored algaes are gone...

All thats left are dino's...

Here's a pic of the 2nd night with lights on...
