right now i just have crappy, stock fluorescent bulbs in my hood, and when i turn them on it seems to drown out the color of my fish.

i noticed in a tank at school today (tank has 2 turtles and a bluegill), that the bluegill was sooooo colored up, it was just about black, and had a dark burnt orange chest. it looked awesome! the light in that tank is weird, i forget what color it was (either green or purple ish) and i was wondering if it was some kind of UV light (for the turtles), and if this is why it was making the fish so colorful.

so, what kind of lights can i put in my hood to enhance my fishes color?

what type of hood are you using? as in what tipe of bulbs, i use a combo of one cheap daylight bulb and one power glo bulb and makes a really bright tank that shows a lot of color. power glo and aqua glo bulbs do great, powerglo for more color and aqua glo for a lil brighter tank.

i'm certain its lighting that is the issue.

printed on the left end of my light bulbs is:
