I have my breeding snails in a bare bottom tank. I want to line it with something that will be soft and not cause any shell damage. You know how they like to fly down from the top sometimes. LOL
I thought about shelf liner, keep reading about cork. Any suggestion??? I don't want soil, want to keep the water very clean and you know how they poop.

i have no idea if it would be safe for long term use in the water, but what about a peice of neoprene (like diver's wetsuits) to line the bottom?

does anyone here know if the above mentioned would work in an aquarium long term?

You could splurge and cover the bottom with with Marimo (Moss) balls. They're really not moss, but that's what they're most commonly called.

Here's a link to the site I got the picture from.

I've been growing an original set of three for about 10 years, their now 8 2-3" balls, after splitting them. I recently purchased another five, to speed up the process.

Oh, I forgot, their scientific name is (Cladophora aegagropila). They're very easy to keep alive, but extremely slow growing.

Wow you Moss Balls are just beautiful... 10yrs. Must have been a real find 10yrs ago.

BettaFishMommy I was looking at Lowe's one roll contained micobacterial agent, that one is out. The other make no mention of it. Just want to preserve the shells. I thought that would be easy to maintain. Any suggestions?
Thank You Karen

Please don't think that the balls in the image are mine. I don't have a current image online. So I 'borrowed' the image. The URL to the original source is there.

Here is the only image I currently have online with one of mine; the actual subject of the image was the month old Red Claw shrimp, so little of the marimo ball, or the rest of the marimo balls, are not shown.

But I agree, they are very attractive, and are an excellent addition to any freshwater tank.

hey with enough marimo balls your snails could have their own ball pen :p
