:D Hey all, have not been here in awhile, anyways, Im now having a problem with little tiny black worms instead of snails. Is this alright for my fish? They seem to be acting okay but I dont want them to get harmed. There are some flys that are there too, when I open the lid they fly away. Plus, I got a 330 biowheel for christmas and then the wheels turned nice and smoothly, tonight I noticed that they are kind of pausing when they turn, if that make sense  , is this normal? I have not rinsed the filters that sit in the back of the wheels, but they dont seem very yucky, should I rinse them? That is where most of those tiny worms are. Thanks for your input!!

I have a 30 gallon tank and I change a little bit of the water everyweek with the python, I have an angel, a pleco, and a variety of tetras. Also I have to bettas that sit in the front of the tank.

Worms: Can't help you.
Flys: Free live fish food
Bio-Wheel: Normal Culturing, good.
Filters: Rinse 'em, no harm.

Are you sure those worms aren't just fish waste? How large are they? If any are longer then say, 1/18 an inch, it's waste.

Where are the worms? What's been added lately that could have introduced them? You mention flies--could these be the larvae? If so, likely harmless, possibly fish food. Not all fish will go after live foods, but the tetras should.

The bio wheel might need to have the spindle cleaned. The arms that rotate around can get gunk built up, and this will limit flow. As long as the wheel is still turning, you're fine, but keep this in mind if it stops.

The filter behind should be rinsed regularly, to remove the detritus and prevent it from causing problems. I just swish mine around in a bucket of clean water, and run my fingers across the pad to get anything loose.

Good to see you back!

thanks`

The worms are hmmmm about --- that long and are very skinny and black, they are usually on the top part of the tank, tonight I found them on the filter cartridge, I will rinse them off, the filter was not that bad, I think maybe cause it is such a big filter for that size of tank. Thanks again, guess they wont hurt my fishy

They won't hurt the fish, but they might make a delicious picnic for the fish. Black is an unusual color for free-living nematodes, or naidid worms.

...so, could they be the larvae of the gnats that are hatching?

All pretty tasty if you're a tropical fish!
