Fanofbigflue -- there are many reasons why your Africans may not be coming out. One is that you might be significantly understocked. (I don't see what your tank size is or how many other fish you have.) I'm also a big confused by the stocking I see you ordered. Are these all male? Are some males and some females? That can cause aggression problems if the boys are fighting over the females. I believe the zebra obliquidens may also be more aggressive than your other peacocks, so the hiding may be related to one bully that you can't really see. I personally would not remove hiding places (although none of the fish he has listed are mbuna). The rocks do give them security. I also have never heard of "dither fish" for Africans. He's thinking you'll put a bunch of tetras in there?????
If you only have these five fish and the tank is at least 55 gallons, I'd think the shyness is due to understocking and it can be solved by adding more (nonaggressive) Africans . ..
