Hey, I'm toying with the notion of giving my fish live food as a treat. I've never used live food and am honestly a little disgusted and nervous about dropping live worms/mosquito larvae in to my tank... am I opening myself up to trouble or overreacting? Would frozen "live" foods be a safer bet? Please share with me your live food experiences and thoughts! Thanks guys...

frozen is always safer, due to the likelihood of parasites/disease being spread to your tank. you can curb this, however, by getting and maintaining yourself a clean culture of whatever it is you may want to feed live. fish LOVE live food.

Hmmm not really in to growing my own food, so I'll probably use frozen thawed, is there still the risk of parasites and diseases? I'd assume the freezing process pretty much kills everything no?

I think I'd rather go the frozen route too, Boo.... I mean, the first thing I think about when using any kind of larvae is "what if these things turn into adults while you have them"... gah!! the disgust compels me to run screaming to get away, LOL.... I mean... could you imagine, having fruit flies, mosquitos, and whatever else flying around the house.... ON PURPOSE!! LOL I couldn't do it.

I have used live black worms and blood worms before though, but only because I can take them and plunk them right in the tank after rinsing.

my sentiment EXACTLY!!! Can you say WRETCH??
