LIVE PLANT BULBS ?

Best way to get them to sprout is to wrap them up in moist paper towels and put that into a plastic bag and put it in a warm spot for a few days or so....

^^^ Cool idea, I will try that, better than the floating meteor look and then having to fish it out of the tank when it does not sprout. I have purchased 3 packs of these over the last year at Wal-mart. Only one has sprouted but it is doing so well that I am happy and will purchase more packs. You can send non sprouting bulbs back, just save the packaging but for $3 it's not really worth it to bother

I got a pack a month ago, it had 6 bulbs, one of them was an onion plant and it rotted after 1 week so i chucked that out. At the moment i have 4 that grew nicely and one thats just laying there showing no signs of growth..

It really does take 30days until the plants grow, at first i thought just throw them in and within a week i should see growth.. WRONG lol
I have 2 of these which grew like crazy in a few days once the roots came out.

Those slow growers are dwarf lillies, nymphaea stellata I think. They can be quite nice but tend to put up floating lily pads as they mature.

Looks like you might have gotten similar bulbs to what I got bk828. :) The aponogeton crispus is what really took off for me... both are doing very well, but the one I placed in the back of the tank (more directly under the lights I have) is phenomenal. Its got at least 7-8 leaves which have hit the water's surface and are continuing to grow across the water surface. I think I might have one similar to your slow-grower too... has some reddish sprouts coming out of it (didn't have it in the tank when I started the others, only just put it in the tank this week, though I had it soaking for a week prior to that) and I'm anxious to identify what it might grow into. :D

I've gotten about 5 packs of these so far, I've also found your fish can affect the growth too.

In a tank with 2 plecos and a betta they took off and are overtaking the whole tank. But in a tank with tetras and guppies they died because the sprouts were eaten as soon as they came out.

lol true but thats with any plant. I had these bulbs in with my silver dollars and as soon as something came out they ate it.. but good thing the bulbs recouped and started showing new growth

I two different packs of bulbs at two different times and a plant from a lfs. The lfs plant looks like it is dying a slow death but some how holding on. The first pack of bulbs were bought at walmart, 4 bulbs in a pack, through them in when they sprout gently put them in the substrait. I threw them in and one sprouted, dug it in and it flourished, one rotted quickly, one rotted slowly and the fourth just didn't do anything sprout or rot so I took it our to let it dry out and try it again.
The other pack (not sure where it came from, my wife bought it) had one bulb, threw it in is sprouted dug it in and it is doing well.

So I have 2 out of 5 bulbs growing. I might add that they are growing quickly and look great.
