Hi,

i have some live rock which has what looks like black rubber on it - sorry no pics because camera isnt too good.

there are three amounts of this black rubber looking stuff in seperate places on the rock - all around 3 cm in diameter

it feels rubbery to touch - not slimy

it is quite shiny and very dark grey too black in colour

it is around half a cm tall of the rock

anyone any ideas what this is?

it is not on any of the other live rock in the tank

thanks alot
david

Is it round and pearlescent? If so, it's bubble algae, a bad thing. Don't pop the bubble or you will have tons of them.

Does it have any holes in it? There's black sponge, which could be what you're seeing.

no there are no holes in it but it is a little shiny and no perfectly round sort of a squiggly circle if you will. Ill have to leave it for a week or so and see if there is any difference and hopefully get a decent camera for a pic - thanks for your comments so far

The only black one i seen before is burmudian black...its possible it could be that. However, there is no way of saying for certain unless we have a picture to look at for it..
