live rock dilema

im starting a fish only, but there is no way to get live rock here. it is illegal to import or collect in hawaii.
i can legaly collect it if it washes up and try to propogate some other rock, but the rock i collect would have not much more that coraline algae, if thats even still alive.

what filtration do you recomend for a fish only with out live rock.

You are allowed to collect live sand in HI. It will make the rock live. Several reefers here use these techniques in HI.

Find the most secluded beach you can find, and sneak your a@@ out there, at night, grab some rock, and run. Even if you only get a few pieces, you can put that in with alot of lace rock and the lace rock will eventually become "live rock".

Yes, as others will say get dry base rock, and as much stuff as is washed up. It might take time, but you'll get there. You'll get more biodiversity than you think from the stuff washed up on the beach

there is a website. I think it seafarms.com they sell about 3 or so different colors and type of coraline.
