Quick question for you guys. I've kept both freshwater and marine tanks for the past several years. I've just moved and donated all of my old fishies to a local school and now get the chance to set up a new tank and thought I'd do a reef. I've got her set up and cycled (took the advice of several people at my local aquarium store and used 2 damsels which I plan on leaving in there anyway, plus BioSpira. Worked like a charm).

Now comes the tough part. Live rock. Two main questions. First, I've noticed that the prices on-line are significantly lower than those in the stores (like half as much for Fiji Rock). Some sites even have free shipping (which on a 50-60 pound order could be quite a lot of savings). Does anyone have any sites or companies they've used and had GREAT experiences with? Any problems with any particular sites or getting live rock via the net in general? Second question/problem. Setting it up. Any ideas? Any suggestions for building the rock wall? Mountain in the middle? Two peaks with a bridge? Anything? Keep in mind this is a 50 gallon tank so nothing TOO extravagant. It is, however, a bowfront so I have more room than most in that area.

Thanks a lot. I've gotten a lot of help from this forum already and hopefully you'll be able to help with this specific problem.

Happy post #1, FSP2!

Two companies I like a lot are Tampa Bay Saltwater and Dr Mac. Right now one of the members has a thread going which has reduced my enthusiasm for TBS, though.

I like a layout that has a couple of large peaks. each of which has a few large caves. Lots of open space for water to flow and fish to play in the rocks.

Aquacon?

Anyone heard anything good or bad about aquacon live rock? Prices are a little higher, but they seem to have really good stuff. Lastly, and this may seem like a silly question but I've never done a reef before, is it a bad thing to mix different types of live rock in a tank?
