Hey, I've been looking at this stuff and it says on the page that it works even better than normal wet live rock. Is this true. If I was to get this stuff for the new tank i'm building and add in live sand and maybe a few larger pieces of other live rock would this become live pretty fast or would it take a while before it would become live? I really like the way it looks and it would be alot easier to set it up dry. What do you think? [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]This rock is Pre Cycled![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]

Your tank will mature faster using Marco Rocks than it would with shipped live rock!

Why?
When live rock is shipped it begins to dry, marine organisms do not like to be dry! They start to die and continue to die for 6 months after making it to your tank.
"This die off of organics works against your tank's maturing process."

I'm not sure if the pricing is any different, but you can also buy that rock straight from their website -- www.marcorocks.com

The link you posted isn't working right... I'll fix that for you. :)

I've considered buying some rock from them myself, but I'm not quite ready for it yet. They have some very cool looking shapes and I've heard very good reviews about them as a company.

If you do buy some, I'd very much like to hear what you think of what you receive and if it does help shorten the cycle.

In theory, it makes sense... From what they claim, they perform a type of rock "cooking" to remove nearly all of the organic matter from it, so your tank cycles with just whatever you choose to use to cycle it. To me, it seems like it would be very similar to using ceramic rock in a tank (in terms of starting with low organics / nutrients), then seeding it to make it live.

Here's my story. I bought almost 40 pounds of dead rock (totally DED) for less than $2 a pound. Then I added about 10 pounds of fully cured liverock from my local fish store. Even then I had some die off.

I threw in a raw shrimp and the tank is pretty much cycled. Took about two weeks.

From the description, it sounds like it is dry sand to me.
For best results Rinse well before use and allow sand to liven before introducing to turbulent flow.

they have excellent feedback rating and reviews on ebay i would not be afraid to order from them and try it out looks great.

so basically, from what it seems, they're pitching the idea that purchasing dead rock and seeding it with some live sand or rock is advantageous to purchasing straight out live rock?

hmm....

I'd probably use it, just weirded out on how they advertised it.
