Live rock question

Is it better to go with one large piece for a tank or a few smaller ones? Personally, I think one large piece would look better in my 10g than a few smaller pieces. Does this matter at all?

You'd have more surface area with smaller pieces and the ability to make overhangs, caves, bridges, etc.

Depends, really. I prefer several smaller pieces for the reason mentioned, but one large chunk and then some rubble (think large grapes) will work nicely as well. Several small bits won't be required for filtration purposes, and you could probably pick a piece that had several large tunnels or holes to provide additional cover for the fish.

I put one large 25lb piece of marshall island in my 20g. It takes up about 1/2 the tank but it is so full of holes and is so branchy it is really cool. My citron gobie is constantly finding new hidy holes to perch in. I also have about 20lbs of fiji in that is smaller baseball sized. I think it looks great. I don't have any pics yet, maybe later today.

I just set it up on Sunday and keep meaning to take pics....will do it and post them for you to see. The rock came out of my 75 so no need for cycling......

You should have varied sizes, like a farely large one and then some few smaller pieces. And if you're planning on making it a nano reef tank, the corals that you get will add to the live rocks because they'll most likely come on one.
