hello, i have made the change to a dsb from c.c. in my switch to a 150 gallon tank. i also have a 50 gallon refugium. my circulation consist of a mag drive 24, a fluval fx5 and a rio 2100 power head. the sand in the main tank is about 3-4 inches and about the same in my refugium. the main tank has about 75 lbs of live rock and about the same of base rock. lighting is an older hamilton system using (4) 60 inch vho flourscents @ 110 watts ea. lights areonly about 2 months old. on the refugium i am using a 24 inch basic flourscent and i know i will probably need to change this at a later date. my rock has started some coraline growth but i noticed yeserday that the rock is turning a golden light brown and a little darker in some areas as well as a small brown area on the sand. it is not the slimy reddish brown and does not simply rub off. the strange thing is in the refugium the sand and the couple pieces of live rock look good. sorry for being long winded and any help here will be appreciated. thanks in advance.

Is it cured LF? The stocking tank at my LFS contains figian LF and it seems his having exactly the same situation. Does your LF also look dull? Anyway as far as i know its not something to be concerned about, just try to manipulate stronger flow over the LF.

water flow& possibly a dumb ?

how much water flow is too much and how do i know which corals like more or less flow so i can position them correctly. as far as for my live rock i was told it is cured. it looked fairly clean with some life on it and did not have any kind of odor. i am not sure about the question of the rock looking dull. thanks again

live rock color

my tank is not cycling and i do not have the paramaters on hand , i noticed today that my kit has past its experation date by a couple of months and need to pick one up tomorrow. I have had diatoms in the past but it was mostly seated on my glass as well as all over the sand (or crushed coral at that time) also it would come of with little cleaning presure. i am not saying its not diatom but that it seems a little different. thanks again
