Hi, Well I just moved back to NJ from FL and I'm in shock...
I wanted to setup a new tank went to LFS and found the LR here @ $9.99
per pound:eek: and it looks more like base rock to boot. oh and even rubble
was $7-8 per pound...

In FL it cost me no more then $5 per pound (and that was for really nice stuff)

So how much do you spend per pound and what state?

I'm going mail order...lol

Hey Ron,

Jump over onto www.njreefers.org and www.manhattanreefs.com and browse the for sale section.

LR frequently sells for $3-$4 a lb that way.

Also, the price ranges from petstore to petstore. Which part of the state are you in? I just bought some nice LR for $4/lb in bordentown at a petstore.

Also, petco sells fiji cured by size. Large is $17 a piece, I believe, and it's usually at least 5 lbs for one of those chunks.

Welcome back to NJ... I guess. You ain't in the sub tropicals anymore! hehe.

location: Princeton - Trenton NJ.

I ordered most of my live rock online because it was 9.99 a lb around here. I did find some for 6.99 in Trenton. I didn't look to hard to be honest I was planning on buying online anyway.

You must shop at the exact same LFS I do. I live in South Jersey and my LFS sells rock for $9.99 a pound. Which one do you go to? I have been to a few.

LOL, superscro - your avatar made me do a double take. I was like "a shark! oh wait, I'm dumb." Love that pic.

Yeah $10 a lb is expensive. It better cured and look like someone spread coraline with a snow shovel to pay that much.

I didn't do the same **** thing.

Actually, I did get one rock of the 9.99lb live rock, but it is covered in purple algae and its my hermits favorite rock. so I guess it was worth it.

thanks, riverserver.. now I really feel stupid....

My LFS has live rock for $8/pound to $4/pound.

The $4/pound live rock looks more like base rock, rather than the "premium" live rock they classify it as.

Just curious where in NJ are u living now? I'm in norther jersey, newark area, and i am paying 9.99$ pound, but all the rock i get is Marshall Island rock so i don't complain much about the price. Its one of the best types of rock and its fully cured.

I live in Nebraska so unfortunately I live no where near an ocean, and live rock here is expensive, anywhere from $7 to $12 per lb. Oh well, the steak is cheap :-)
