I am looking to order some live rock but am worried about getting it delivered. I live in Chicago so its really cold outside and was wondering if everything would die off by the time it gets to my house. I am not sure how they deliver this stuff so I dont know if I should wait untill the weather is warmer or just go ahead and order it anyway.

I'm pretty suer they just have liverock in a styrophon box, and some wet newspaper or paper towels covering the rocks, and some heat pack to prevent the box to get too cold. At least that's how they get to fish stores.

Thats correct, every online store i have ordered from sent it to me just in a syrofoam box wrapped in wet newspaper.. and then they will use add heat packs or ice packs at your request if they are needed!..

i have ordered over 200 pounds of live rock online.. over the last years.. and i have had all kinds of live come on the rock.. Great stuff.. lots of coraline, and some mantis shrimps, Now must people dont want the mantis.. but i think they where cute little buggers.. :)

Online LR

One thing to check on when ordering LR online at this time of year is what airline they use and what is the earliest time they can get it to the airport. I have had a couple orders delayed and had to sit overnight in a cold airport cargo hanger d/t being bumped. It destroyed most of the "critters" as well as what was good algae, sponge, squirts. Just some things to check on.......
