My tank is ready to receive substrate but i'm not sure what to get. I had planned on live sand, but the South Pacific live sand I was going to get did not contain crushed coral. I then heard of Arag-alive. This would help stabalize my pH and introduce calcium, but I don't think I'll be getting the worms and crustaceans and all the life that is in live sand. Which would be the better choice? Also, would I be able to mix them or would that just look weird? any opinions appreciated. thanks!

I would use real live sand...it doesn't take much to jump start the system. Arag-Alive is really just bacteria...no pods or other beneficial critters. It is a huge waste of money. You can use regular sand and seed it from an established tank and get better results faster than a mostly dead bagged so called alive sand. The more you seed, the better. sand doesn't really buffer a tank until the ph drops below I believe 7.6 and if your ph drops that low you have issues that a dissolving sand will not solve.
