hey guys,
what are the water parameters u use to keep your dwarf crays?
they are new here in Israel and no one really has much exp. with them
thanks

I successfully keep dwarf cajun crays in water with a PH of around 8, dh 3, kh 4, temp around 78F. My attempt to keep CPOs failed, unfortunately, though it may not have had anything to do with the water.

mine are kept in pH 7.6, gh 10, kh 14, temp 72-76. I have two species breeding like gangbusters. You need lots of hides ( I use small stacked driftwood and mosses).

thanks :-)
do u use pvc pipes or shells as hideouts?
(the shells can help harden the water...)

I have naturally hard water, well relaly moderately hard. i use driftwood as i attach plants to it. I stack them up. If I have time, i will take a few pics of my different dwarf cray tanks.

I feed ken's veggies sticks. i do not add supplemental calcium to the water column as its added to the food. Hikari makes a diet for shrimp that is fine as well.

I am not sure what brands are available in your country to recommend, but those are teh two i have used.

I have used pvc for hides as well, they work well, I just like the more natural look of lots of small driftwood.

thanks, we have mostly tetra and sera foods here, i`ll try to get hikari on ebay.

I keep a few different types of crayfish and among them is a healthy breeding colony of CPO's. Out of curiousness I bought some of the Biomax food on Ebay. The Biomax breeding food that came with the regular food is not very good as I don't trust what is in that one--hormone based perhaps? I tossed it out. The regular Biomax crayfish food is basically spirulina and protein meal. For the price I don't think it is any better than less expensive foods on the market. My dwarfs don't really go for the Biomax food as much as they go for the Hikari sinking carnivore pellets and Crab Delight. However, my larger crayfish (Procambarus allenii's) like it a lot. My CPO's are maintained mostly on a diet of Hikari Sinking Carnivore Pellets, homemade foods and veggies such as the stems from Broccoli etc and some Ken's spirulina wafers.

I also keep my CPO's in tanks that are heavy in mosses and plants and places for the crays to hide on a variety of levels within the tanks.

thanks bubbles,
can you specify how do u treat the veggies before you feed them to your crabs?
do u know any other types of good CPO foods?
the hikari pellets will cost me 20$ and i cant find ken`s on ebay
