Picked up a fish at the big sale today. It was marked as a Lizard Blenny. The guy said it would get about 4-5" and was reef safe, so I figured I'd give it a try. I'm trying to find information on it but not getting much. Live Aquaria says its semi aggressive and may prey on small shrimp, but is mostly not too aggressive, but a few other sources indicate that within a week I'll have no hermits or snails left in the tank. Anyone have experience with these things? Its going into QT for now so if I really need to return it, its not a huge problem.

Well I've found a little more info on it, scientific name is Parapercis schauinslandii

Gorgeous fish.

I had one for about a year until my tank started leaking, had to put him in my big tank and there he became food. I had mine with snails and hermits never a problem. He did tend to be a pig when feeding time came around. Eats more than what you would think at their size. Similar to algea blennys in personality. Never had a problem with it as far as aggression.

I looked it up in my reef fish guide and they have it classified as a sand perch (redspotted sand perch, red grubfish). Says it gets to 5" and needs only a 20g tank. Eats meaty foods for carnivores and only needs feed every other day. Their other notes say that it is one of the best sand perch species for the reef tank as it doesn't get as large as many in it's family and is less of a threat to inverts because of that. It also less aggressive than many of its congeners. It can become more of a bully as it gets larger with even small specimens possibly harassing other bottom dwellers after it is established.

AWesome thanks for the info. I guess I'll go with it for now, doesn't sound like it will be much of a problem.WE'll see how it goes. It does eat like a pig, chowing down on mysis, bloodworms and brine shrimp, the day I got it even.
