What kind of Loach do you think I could get for my 20gal. planted tank? I want one because it seems the small hitchhiking snails are eating some of the plants and I want to try to control them from reproducing like crazy.

Go with a group of kuhli loaches. I'm not sure how stocked your tank is, so all I can say is get as many as you can. I have some kuhli loaches, they are awesome fish.

Or you could go with yo-yos, again, the more the better.

I have heard this several times on this site... someone is going to have to point me in the direction of published material that states Kühli's eat snails.

Robert,

Instead of adding more fish to the tank, why don't you directly address the snails? Unless you are *positive* they are eating your plants, they can be more of a benefit in the long run if you simply control their numbers.

Here's an article that daveedka is working on about . . . snails!:

It kind of seems hit or miss, some people have success, some not. Google kuhli loaches + eating snails.

I reccomend them mainly 'cause of their personality and looks.

I have done that. I trust that about as much as I trust Google searches concerning using salt as a "Tonic".

I mean something "published" where someone's actual expertise and credibility is on the line. Someone who wrote a book, has a degree, and really has something at stake concerning the veracity of such a comment or report.

i had alot snails in my 125g and i bought a pair of Skunk Botia Loaches and tho i never actually saw one eat a snail they are now all gone less then a week later so altho that may not be actually published proof its proof enough for me

Skunk is not Kühli.

And I think Kühli's are not even Botia.

Skunk loaches are known to eat snails, if I am not mistaken.

If I threw 100 snails in a 10 gallon with 6 Kühli's, and in a week or two I only had say, 15 snails... did the Kühli's eat 85 of 'em?

I suppose if I had 6 hatchets, or neons, in the same equation, we could determine that they ate 'em.

Snails disappearing is not necessarily proof that anyone is eating them... They also disappear for other reasons...

Now- if you have a Clown Loach and hear a hard semi-loud tapping/clicking noise in the night, it is likely a snail is meeting a Clown Loach.
