Loaches and snails

Yes, I am wondering the same thing. I am planning on getting a couple of Kulli Loaches and probably some Mystery or Ramshorn snails. Would like to know before I learn the hard way.

With the exception of the hillstream loach (and possibly some others) I think that most types of loaches will consume snails. There are some species that are more prone to "snailicide" than others, but it seems to be largely dependent on the personality of individual fish and/or their exposure to snail consumption. I think the majority of loaches can be trained to eat snails by crushing small snails and feeding them. If there are other snail-eating fish in the aquarium then they seem to catch on quite fast.

i have read that kuhlis do eat snails, i have not tried with mine yet.

I recomend that you go with ramshorn snails not mystery. Ramshorn reproduce asexual and mystery snails need a male and female. Ramshorns are also smaller and therefore less likely to grow to big for the loaches to eat.

I imagine my Clown Loaches enjoy them and I was warned of this prior to purchasing them. However, the snail farm I'm running provides a nearly infinite supply of the little grubs for them. I usually send in the matured ones to do some cleaning and after a while, I'm sucking those empty shells out. I'm going to keep doing it until those snails learn to move faster...

I found out that those little Otos eat snails as well... not just algae!
Did you actually see this happen? I have a lot of otos of various types and have never seen one try to eat a snail, and I have never heard of such a thing either.
