I just noticed that I suddenly have baby snails in my tank! I don't particularly like the idea of them taking over so I was thinking of adding loaches... do all varieties eat snails? Clown loaches seem to be out of the question as I do not have enough room for a group of them... what are my other options? Any other good ways to get rid of snails?

**I should add that I am in the process of adjusting the stocking of my 44... I plan to remove the 2 boesemani and the platy's, and adjust the other numbers - probably make one school of either b.a. tetra or the silver tip... OR add another ram and?

Have snail infestation.

Bought Kuhli loach ro see if he would eat them.

He ate snails...

and ate snails...

...and ate even more snails...

...and died from eating too many (shells the size of grains of sand, ate them whole), he bloated up and died. :thud:

The lesson? I dunno, but if you have tons of snails one fish won't do it. I've heard dwarf puffers are hell on snails but are hell on your other fish too. Also heard Pakistan (yoyo) loaches do well. I gave up.

Good luck, I still have snails (even though my crayfish and crab are killing them constantly). People will BS and say you only have snails if you overfeed, but it is untrue, if you have a planted tank with driftwood there is plenty of vegetable matter to keep them breeding.

YoYo's eat snails

2 YoYo's now I'm just vac'ing up snail shells - they reportedly suck the snails right out of their shell. I stopped seeing snails crawling up the glass the 1st week I introduced the YoYo's.

They get along great with all of my other fish and are not aggressive towards each other or any others.

I am having the same issue. I want something to eat snails, but not eat my Cherry shrimp I am putting in my tank. I don't think there is an answer for that one either. You could just live with them. They are great at eating all of the dead plant material and leftover food. I have a couple of tanks that just have snails everywhere (the gravel moves, lol). I just make sure they have enough food and they don't really bother anything. I will keep checking this one and see if anyone has any better answers.
